I watched the Dispatches documentary last night and I was shocked. Not by the sleaze, dodgy financial deals and blatant use of taxpayers money to pursue political agendas, but by the fact that I wasn’t really very, well, shocked.

It has come to a sorry state of affairs when accusations such as these are like water off a ducks back. I expect todays politicians to be corrupt, I expect taxpayers money to be diverted into political funds, I expect deals to be done with undesirable foreign tyrants in the name of political expediency.

Scandal after financial scandal has numbed my outrage when presented with a program such as this. Broken promises on referendums, money laundered through unions to fund BBC / Nu Labour, statist bias in our national broadcaster, and MP’s who will vote themselves pay rises and seek to exempt themselves from FOI requests while spreading our personal data around like confetti at a wedding and seeking to censor free speech on the internet and in public forums generally. This is before we start to discuss wars started on lies, cash for honours, and unaccountable quangoes gaining power over increasing parts of our lives staffed by the BBC / Nu Labour alliance great and good.

This country is run by a social democrat, pro-state, pro-EU mafia. Kens misdeeds may well be higher in the ‘blatentometer’, but essentially, this just makes him either more stupid, or perversely more honest, than the filth that make up the rest of our current ruling class.

I suspect a Blu Labour Cameron government would be little different, and a Fib Dem administration would be catastrophic. However, we can sit safe in our houses knowing that if (when?) the EU constitution is signed, this corruption and unpleasantness will be transferred to foreign shores, so that at least we won’t have to actually look at it happening under our noses. But then that is what they are banking on. Oh joy.
