So why wasn’t James Naughtie sacked from Radio 4’s flagship Today programme for making this comment to Labour’s Ed Balls in the run up to a General Election “If we win the election ….”

The answer is, of course, because the bias shown by the BBC / Nu Labour alliance is institutional; they don’t know they are doing it, so they see no need for a correction.

    It depends on context. I have heard the same said to Tories. Surely it is the interviewer putting himself in the place of the interviewee and playing devils advocate.
